Gardaí were still questioning a man in Co Clare last night in relation to an armed stand-off at a house in Gort earlier this month.
The man, in his late 30s, was arrested at midday yesterday and was taken to Ennis Garda station for questioning under Section 30 of the 1939 Offences Against the State Act.
Gardaí said he was being "interviewed about discharging a firearm" and that he could be detained for up to 72 hours at the station.
Anthony Burke (39) spent the last fortnight in University College Hospital, Galway, where he had been treated for a bullet wound to his chest area.
Mr Burke was shot by a Garda sniper soon after he emerged from his home in Crowe Street, Gort, shortly before 8.30 pm on October 9th.
Mr Burke, who was armed with two licensed shotguns, had spent 22 hours in the house.
His partner and mother of three children had sought refuge with neighbours when he fired a number of shots on the night of October 8th.
Gardaí say that he had refused to negotiate for much of the following day.
He eventually responded to the gardaí at about 6 pm, but he had acted in a "threatening manner" when he emerged without warning shortly after 8.15 that night.
A "less lethal" bean-bag round failed to disable him before he was shot.
Mr Burke was released from hospital yesterday and was arrested.
Several investigations are being carried out into the incident, including an inquiry into all aspects of the incident which was ordered by Garda Commissioner Noel Conroy.
