Will there be a white Christmas? Forecasters say ‘wintry falls possible’

The warmer than average weather is set to come to an end after the weekend

We may not get a white Christmas this year but forecasters predict it will get “very cold” with some snow and hail showers possible.

Overall, the outlook is cold and unsettled over the next week.

So it’s time to grab those woolly hats and gloves as Ireland’s spell of milder than normal weather is set to come to an end on Christmas Day with the arrival of frost and ice.

Met Éireann said Christmas Day will start off mild but turn much colder during the day.

Some wintry showers may happen overnight as temperatures are expected to fall bringing frost and ice.

BoyleSports have pushed out the odds of a on Christmas Day at Dublin Airport to 13/2 from 3/1. “(Hopes of )waking up to a blanket of snow on Christmas Day are being dashed,” a spokeswoman said.

The forecast shows Christmas Eve will be mild with the highest temperatures reaching 12 degrees.

It will be a windy day and rain will move across the north and west. Many other areas are expected to stay mostly dry.
