Severe winds are expected in the north and north west today.
Met Éireann issued a "status yellow" warning this morning for Connacht, Cavan, Monoghan and Donegal where gusts are expected to reach 100km/h.
Mean wind speeds will be between 45 and 55km/h, with the strongest gusts expected in exposed coastal and hilly areas of Ulster and Connacht.
A yellow alert is for weather conditions that do not pose an immediate threat to the general population, only to those in specific location or taking part in particular activities.
Elsewhere in the country weather is expected to be cool, blustery and very showery. Showers will be heaviest and most frequent along the Atlantic Seaboard.
Temperatures will be low, reaching a maximum of just 14 degrees with occasional sunny spells in the south and east.
Showers are expected to die out tonight and Tuesday will start cool and dry.
