Monday’s Irish Times will feature a bumper supplement on college options as CAO offers are made. College Choice 2015 will include full first round points listing, analysis of the trends, and advice on your next steps and planning for third-level.

Key dates for students:

Monday, August 17th: Round one college offers are available online from 6 am at Central Applications Office website (cao.ie).

Tuesday, August 18th: The Available Places facility opens at cao.ie for courses which have yet to be filled.

Tuesday, August 18th: Deadline for applying to schools for viewing of marked scripts if you are thinking about lodging an appeal against a result.

Monday, August 24th: If you choose to accept a CAO offer you must do so by 5.15 pm on this date. The CAO says you can accept online or by post but do not do both. You will receive acknowledgement of your acceptance by post within seven days, and the institution will also make contact.

Thursday, August 27th: A further round of CAO offers (round two) are issued. If a place becomes available and you are deemed eligible you will receive an offer notice. Further offers are made until mid-October.

Friday August 28th, Saturday August 29th: Viewing of Leaving Cert scripts takes place in schools for those who applied.

Wednesday, September 2nd 2015: Anyone appealing a result needs to apply to the State Examinations Commission by 5pm on this date. Results of appeals will be issued in mid-October.

If an applicant’s results are upgraded on appeal, their position on the ‘Order of Merit’ list will be altered to reflect their new points score.

If they are deemed entitled to a place on a course based on their upgraded Leaving Certificate results they will receive an offer. If all of the places for that course have already been allocated, they will receive a deferral of the offer for the following academic year.
