The two men who were arrested on Tuesday over the 2007 murder of Limerick teenager Jeffrey Hannon have been released without charge.

Jeffrey Hannon (19), from O’Malley Park, Southill, Limerick, was beaten to death with an axe handle and left in a field next to his parents’ house on November 22nd, 2007.

More than 20 people have been arrested over the killing, but no one has been charged.

On Tuesday morning, gardaí raided two houses in Limerick city and made the arrests.

One man in his 40s was detained under Section 4 of the Criminal Justice Act, 1984, at Roxboro Road Garda Station. The second male, aged in his late 20s, was held under Section 30 of the Offences against the State Act, 1939, at Henry St. Garda Station.

Both men were released without charge on Tuesday night.

A file is being prepared for the Director of Public Prosecutions while investigations continue.
