Two men in 70s assaulted during Clontarf robbery

25-year-old man arrested in Ballymun following theft on Malahide road

Two men in their 70s were injured in the early hours of Wednesday morning when a man assaulted them outside a house in Clontarf.

The younger man attacked one of the men at about 12.30pm after he walked into the driveway of a house on the Malahide Road and took them man’s car keys. He then assaulted a second man in his 70s who was passing by and had come to the aid of the injured man.

The suspect fled the scene in the first man’s car.

Both men were treated at the scene by Dublin Fire Brigade. The second man was taken to the Mater hospital for further treatment but has since been released.

Gardaí later arrested a 25-year-old man at a house at Dolmen Court, Ballymun. Gardaí also located the stolen car in Ballymun.

The man is being detained at Clontarf Garda station under the provisions of section 4 of the Criminal Justice Act 1984.
