Masked gunman attempted to rob post office on Woodbine Park on Tuesday evening

A masked gunman fired a number of shots during the attempted robbery of a post office in south county Dublin.

Gardaí said the man entered the post office on Woodbine Park armed with a handgun at 2.30pm on Tuesday.

The man threatened customers and staff before firing a number of shots.

A passerby who sought to apprehend the masked man outside the post office was slightly injured in the ensuing scuffle.

Gardaí said his injuries were not lifethreatening and that no shots were fired during the scuffle.

The gunman then escaped on foot.

Woodbine post office is in the Woodbine estate between the N11 entrance to UCD and Booterstown.

Gardaí have said any sightings of the masked man should be reported to Donnybrook Garda station on 01-6669200 or any Garda station.
