A man in his 20s has been arrested over an assault in Dublin that has left another man in critical condition in hospital.

Gardaí in Dublin are investigating what they describe as a serious assault which has left a man in critical condition in hospital.

The attack happened at Kelly’s Row, Dorset Street, Dublin 1 in the early hours of this morning, a Garda spokeswoman said.

Gardaí were called to the scene at an apartment at Kelly’s Row at about 1.45am.

A man in his late 30s who was seriously injured was removed to the nearby Mater hospital by ambulance.

"He has since been transferred to Beaumont Hospital and is in a critical condition," the spokeswoman said.

Another man, who is in his late 20s, has been arrested by gardaí this morning and he is currently detained under section 4 of the Criminal Justice Act, 1984, at Mountjoy Garda station.
