Detectives investigating a shooting in Co Louth have arrested a man.

The 26-year-old suspect was detained this morning in Drogheda over a gun attack in the town last night.

The victim, aged in his 30s, was shot in the leg in the Donore Road area.

His injuries were not thought to be life threatening. Investigators said the victim had made his way to a nearby shop to raise the alarm following the shooting, which happened at around 9.30pm.

He was taken by ambulance to Our Lady of Lourdes Hospital in Drogheda where he was described as being in a stable condition.

Investigating gardai said they are questioning a man in connection with the incident. He is being held at Drogheda Garda station under section 30 of the Offences Against the State Act.

The scene of the incident, which is near a local bus station,was last night preserved for a technical examination and gardai have appealed for witnesses.
