Gardaí have arrested two men in Co Roscommon following a robbery at a post office in Strokestown this morning.

The two masked men, both in their 20s, entered the post office at around 9.30am threatening staff and customers. It is believed one of the men was armed with a firearm.

They stole an undisclosed amount of cash and escaped from the scene in a silver Volvo car, headed in the direction of Longford Town. The car later crashed on the road between Ballymahon and Lanesborough.

The two men were arrested at the scene and are currently being detained for questioning under Section 30 of the Offences against the State Act, 1939 at Roscommon Garda Station.
