Dundalk families evacuated after explosive device found

A number of families were evacuated from their homes on Friday morning after a suspect device was discovered at a home in Dundalk, Co Louth.

The Defence Force’s Explosive Ordnance Disposal (EOD) unit was alerted shortly before 1am when the device was discovered at a home in Blackwater Court, Dundalk, Co Louth.

Nine families were evacuated from their homes as a precaution before the EOD unit carried out a controlled explosion of the suspected pipe bomb.

The residents were able to return to their homes about 6am after the area was declared safe.
