THE Corrs celebrated their Best International Act award at last Tuesday's Brits by attending a party in London thrown by Eurythmics's Dave Stewart and Annie Lennox. Before they could troop off to the party, however, the Dundalk band found themselves the star guests at an impromptu celebration in their own dressing room, backstage at the awards ceremony. The world and its wife stopped by to congratulate Andrea, Sharon, Caroline and Jim, including Tony Blair's wife Cherie Blair, Northern Secretary Mo Mowlam, Bono, Stevie Wonder and Muhammad Ali.
Looking on proudly at their successful offspring were Gerry and Jean Corr, and joining The Corrs in celebration were the band's manager John Hughes and his wife Marie; former head of Warner UK Rob Dickins, who was instrumental in breaking The Corrs in Britain; Andy Murray of EastWest Records (Europe); Fran Lickman, head of Warner International; and Brian Avnett of 143 Records, the band's Los Angeles label.
Although the Brits party is over, there's no rest for the wicked: The Corrs were on Top of the Pops last night, performing their new version of Runaway, which has just gone in at No 3 in the UK. After that, the girls and guy are off to the US, where they are sure to further charm the American public. They play a special St Patrick's Day concert in the Roseland in New York, and will also appear on US TV's Saturday Night Live and Rosie O'Donnell's show. The Corrs will also be supporting The Rolling Stones on their American tour. The old rockers are big fans of the young Dundalk-ers. When The Corrs played a concert in Germany recently, Mick Jagger and the boys watched from the side of the stage, an honour the Stones usually only bestow on the likes of Bob Dylan. The Corrs make a triumphant return to Ireland with a massive concert in Lansdowne Road on Saturday, July 17th. Good news for Irish men everywhere is that the rumour of Andrea Corr's romance with Colin Devlin of The Devlins turns out to be just that - a rumour.
