Cityjet has asked the authorities at Malaga Airport, Spain, to investigate how a man got through security at the airport recently and tried to board a Dublin-bound plane. The incident led to a 90-minute delay for passengers on the aircraft.
The incident occurred on Saturday, August 31st, when a Spanish man got through security screening at Malaga Airport, got on a bus with other CityJet passengers and travelled to the CityJet aircraft.
When boarding, he was asked for a boarding pass and could not produce one. He sought to get to a seat but cabin-crew called the police who took him into custody.
The passengers and crew were taken off the plane and a security search was carried out.
The flight departed 90 minutes later than scheduled. The man was released from custody later that day.
The police in Malaga said he was from Madrid, with no criminal record or links to any terrorist group. There was nothing unusual in his luggage.
CityJet said it was satisfied its procedures and security system ensured the safety of passengers and crew. It said the Malaga Airport authorities are responsible for security there.
