Lake Garda safe, Irish tourists told

Irish tourists have been told it is perfectly safe to visit the Gardone Riviera region of Lake Garda following the death of a British tourist from suspected food poisoning at a four-star hotel. Twenty Britons staying at the Grand Hotel fell ill after eating fish in what is a suspected salmonella case.

Thousands of Irish tourists visit the resort each year.

The president of Brescia tourism in Italy, Alessio Merigo, said the incident should not compromise the reputation of hotels and other facilities in the region.
