Mini has confirmed the engine range that will power its third-generation models which will be revealed in November. The core of the range will be a new family of 1.5-litre, three-cylinder engines, both petrol and diesel. The main version for Ireland will be the new 114bhp 1.5 diesel model, which is claimed to be around 7 per cent more efficient than the current 1.6-litre four-cylinder diesel engine. All engines will be offered with both six-speed manual gearboxes and optional eight-speed automatics.
The Cooper version will get a 134bhp 1.5 turbo petrol, while the range-topping Cooper S will get a 189bhp 2.0-litre four-cylinder turbo. Underneath the new Mini lies the new UKL1 platform, which will also underpin the new BMW 1 Series in 2017, moving that model more into contention with front-drive rivals from Audi and Mercedes.
The Mini will get adaptive electronic dampers for the first time, as well as a new pyrotechnic pop-up bonnet to improve pedestrian impact performance.
