Wexford developer William Neville and Sons has got the thumbs down from An Bord Pleanála for a large residential scheme in Loughlinstown, Co Dublin.

This is the second blow for the same developer in recent weeks. The company was recently refused planning permission by South Dublin County Council to build 196 apartments and houses at Swiftbrook Mills in Saggart, Co Dublin, because it was looking to build the development on a site that had been reserved for a primary school.

The latest refusal saw An Bord Pleanála support a decision by Dún Laoghaire-Rathdown County Council to refuse permission for a development of 370 units and a childcare facility in nine blocks at Tullyvale, Druids Valley in Cherrywood, Loughlinstown.

The developer argued in its appeal that revisions were proposed which would result in a reduction in the number of units from 396 to 370 and an increase in the distances between some blocks while a number of balconies would be omitted to minimise overlooking.

However, An Bord Pleanála upheld the local authority's decision and said the development would be premature pending the determination by the planning authority or road authority of a road layout for the area.

It also said that, given the layout and scale of the proposed development, it would be premature pending preparation of a local area plan.
