While the calls continue for new homes construction in the capital, Stillorgan’s Upper Kilmacud Road in south Co Dublin looks likely to be well-served, with a couple of substantial developments along this mature residential stretch in the offing.

Caye Construction, the property development company of Seán Keegan, is planning to construct 48 homes beside the Hazelbrook scheme. Keegan (28) is the son of Castleknock-based developer Larry Keegan, who developed housing estates such as Collegewood in Dublin 15 and Eagle Valley in Enniskerry. Seán Keegan's company sought to obtain planning permission on the Stillorgan site in August 2014. Following an An Bord Pleanála appeal by the owners of an apartment in the neighbouring Hazelbrook apartment block, the granting of Keegan's planning permission for 48 units was upheld in July. The majority of the land was occupied by a former De La Salle junior school and a house, Long Acre, which came on the market through Ganly Walters in 2013 seeking €1.8 million. The remainder of the 2.12-acre site forms part of Hazelwood House, a period dwelling owned by the De La Salle Provincialate, with whom Keegan has reached an agreement as the order submitted consent for lands to be developed under the scheme.

Stillorgan Gate will comprise eight terraced houses fronting on to Upper Kilmacud Road, with 20 three-bedroom duplex apartments and 20 two-bedroom apartments to be constructed to the rear.

Meanwhile New Generation homes continues its new homes drive a little further up the road with an application lodged for a development at Green Acres, beside the residential Holywell estate, for 130 apartments in four blocks of five or six floors. The move has already raised hackles locally as access is via a narrow country road that struggles to accommodate the substantial Holywell commuter traffic.
