Glenisk issues product recall over peanut concern

Granola yoghurts may contain traces of substance despite it not being listed as allergen

The Food Safety Authority of Ireland has issued an allergen warning for certain Glenisk and Supervalu granola yoghurts which may contain traces of peanut.

Recent lab tests showed that packets of honey and natural Glenisk yoghurt with granola, and strawberry and natural Supervalu yoghurt with granola may have been contaminated with small amounts of peanut.

The substance is not listed as an allergen on any of the specified products, a situation which poses a potential health risk for people who are allergic to peanuts.

As such, the company has issued a recall order which encompasses the following products and use-by dates:

Glenisk 0% fat yoghurt with granola, honey flavour (145g), use-by dates: 27/10, 10/11, 23/11, 30/11

Supervalu yoghurt with granola, natural flavour (145g), use-by dates: 27/10, 10/11, 30/11

Supervalu yoghurt with granola, strawberry flavour (145g), use-by dates: 27/10, 10/11, 30/11

The products feature a granola cup containing oats, wheat and hazelnuts fixed to the top of a yoghurt pot.

The possible presence of peanut was flagged by granola supplier Crispy Foods, and the wide-ranging precaution is being taken as Glenisk also produces Supervalu granola yoghurts.

Tests showed affected batches contained between 1.4 per parts per million and 4.1 parts per million of peanut.

The company says it has not received any reports of adverse reactions from customers, and anyone who has bought one of the specified products and wants to return it for a full refund can do so at the point of purchase.
