What a gem

For most of us, one calling in life is quite enough to be getting on with. Not so for barrister Suzanne Fleury

For most of us, one calling in life is quite enough to be getting on with. Not so for barrister Suzanne Fleury. Despite being called to the Bar in 2007, Fleury harboured a fascination with jewellery-making. A chance meeting at a Dublin farmers’ market with Russian journalist and jewellery designer Anna Lebedeva led to Fleury following her second calling, and just before Christmas, the pair established Kiki Fleur jewellery.

They use semi-precious stones such as amethyst, and freshwater pearls, to create beautiful necklaces, earrings and bracelets.

Prices start at €32. This long silver-plated chain (which can be worn doubled up as seen here) with dove grey agate, smokey quartz, opalite, carnelion and crystal, is €72.

Fleury and Lebedeva (along with business partner Nicolas Hantzsch) source their semi-precious stones and pearls from wholesale gem shops in the Marais in Paris. Most of their metal comes from Europe and they are on their way to sourcing only European-made and Fairtrade components.

Their first consignment sold quickly at markets and jewellery parties over Christmas. And the pair are launching their Spring Collection from 6pm next Wednesday, February 13th, at their Gems and Cocktails evening at Barry's Bar, 58 Grand Canal Street Upper, Dublin 4. See KikiFleur on facebook.com.
