A man in his 20s has drowned in the River Flesk in Killarney, Co Kerry.

The accident at the rear of houses and a soccer pitch in the Woodlawn area of the town occurred around 3.30pm on Tuesday.

The man is from the east Killarney area and the alarm was raised by a friend. Paramedics, the fire service and a doctor attended the scene.

A postmortem is due to take place.
