Wandering US saxophonist and composer Jacob Duncan has preached his Liberation Prophecy in several different incarnations (including one in Texas that featured a certain Norah Jones on vocals), but the constant has always been Duncan and his writing. Freedom through music is the goal; if that sounds a tad ambitious, Duncan does at times come close, finding wormholes that connect the sonic liberation of the contemporary avant garde with the immediacy of folk and country. Now back home in Louisville, Kentucky, Duncan's latest Prophecy is a fiery eight-piece ensemble that can handle anything from George Russell to George Jones, with singer Carly Johnson finding the sweet spot in the American vocal tradition that lies somewhere between New York and Nashville. liberationprophecy.com
