Trinity College names Geraldine Ruane as chief operating officer

Elsewhere, Smurfit School in UCD announces eight new faculty members on back of record admissions

Trinity College has appointed a chief operating officer.

Geraldine Ruane, who filled the role on an interim basis since the start of 2014, has been confirmed in the role.

Qualified accountant Ms Ruane has worked extensively in the pharma sector, with Mallinckrodt and Novartis before taking the role of chief executive with Chanelle Pharmaceuticals.

She joined Trinity from the Ordnance Survey of Ireland, where she also served as CEO.

Separately, UCD's Michael Smurfit Graduate Business School has made eight new appointments on the back of record student admissions over the past two years.

Dr Virpi Turkulainen, Dr Chia-Yu Kou-Barrett, Dr Jury Gualandris and Dr Virginia Stewart all join as lecturers in management, while Dr Rashedur Chowdhury joins the management subject area

Elsewhere, Dr Roisin Vize has been appointed lecturer in digital marketing, with Dr Geertje Schuitema named as lecturer in consumer behaviour and technology adoption. Dr Julie Byrne joins as lecturer in banking and finance.

Dr Niamh O’Riordan also joins UCD School of Business as lecturer in information systems and organisation.

The school says that more than a third of its academic staff are now international.
