Virgin Media has announced it is to create 120 jobs at its National Customer Experience Centre at Roxboro, Limerick, bringing the total number of staff on site to 400.
The company also plans to expand its superfast fibre broadband network for homes and businesses in the region.
“Virgin Media is growing its Irish workforce to meet demand for its superfast broadband, TV, phone and mobile services. The jobs are being created directly and together with partner Sitel, with all new positions based in Virgin’s high-tech Customer Experience Centre in Roxboro,” the company said.
The new positions will be filled immediately and are all full-time. They include roles for customer care specialists handling billing and sales, plus a number of specialist back-office finance roles.
Virgin Media has also confirmed it will widen its network footprint in the mid-west region with a plan to connect 10,000 more homes and businesses to its superfast broadband network when its upgrade is completed.
‘Very welcome’
Attending the jobs announcement in his native Limerick, the Minister for Finance, Michael Noonan described it as "a very welcome development".
“Today’s announcement follows a succession of quality job announcements for Limerick and further demonstrates the city’s proven track record in attracting companies of this nature. Virgin Media has consistently been one of the biggest employers in Limerick and I commend them for this jobs decision and their continuing investments in the mid-west,” he added.
Virgin Media chief executive Tony Hanway said: "Digital services are a huge part of our daily lives and Virgin Media is playing a central role in shaping and supporting the digital transformation of Irish society. More than 834,000 homes and businesses connect to Virgin broadband speeds which are at least three times as fast as those available from other providers."
“It’s great to be growing our presence in Limerick, both with these new jobs and the ongoing expansion of Ireland’s only truly high speed broadband network,” Mr Hanway added.
Virgin Media first established a base in Limerick in 2001, where it operates its national customer service and administration centre.
