SurveyMonkey, the online survey company which was valued in a fundraising last year at $1.35 billion (€974 million), is poised to open an office in Dublin.

The business, which is led by David Goldberg, husband of Facebook's chief operating officer Sheryl Sandberg, is expected to create 50 new positions initially.

Ms Sandberg was instrumental in Facebook setting up its European headquarters in Dublin. The operation is now one of the country's largest technology employers with more than 500 staff.

SurveyMonkey incorporated a company in Ireland in September 2013 and is now understood to be close to formally announcing its commitment to Ireland.

High-growth technology
SurveyMonkey is the latest high-growth technology company to choose Ireland as a location, following others including Dropbox, Airbnb, Nitro and AdRoll.

It is headquartered in Palo Alto California. The company states that it is used by 99 per cent of America's Fortune 500 firms. In 2013, SurveyMonkey said it had revenues of $113 million per annum.

Last year it raised $800 million in capital with half of this coming from investors led by Tiger Global Management and the rest coming from debt provided, by among others, JP Morgan.

At the time the company said it had no plans to seek a public listing.

Other investors in SurveyMonkey include Mr Goldberg, a venture capitalist and experience technology entrepreneur, as well as internet giant Google.
