Recruitment is under way to fill 100 digital IT security positions at technology hard- ware provider Qualcomm in Cork, with the possibility of additional jobs down the line.
The company's new Irish base in Mahon was opened yesterday by Minister for Minister for Jobs Richard Bruton. It is considering a research and development wing in Cork, which could lead to up to 150 more jobs.
Mr Bruton said the jobs announcement represented a morale boost for Cork.
The company was seeking employees with a specialist skill set and Cork was able to deliver, Qualcomm vice-president Kevork Kechichian said.
Qualcomm initially sought to expand in the US or Canada, but found the skills it was looking for in Cork.
