Profitero, which closed an $8 million (€5.9 million) funding round with American venture capital firm Polaris Partners, is opening the Shanghai operation as it looks to tap into the Chinese ecommerce market. Online sales in China are expected to top $800 billion this year and will account for more than half the entire global online retail market by the end of 2019.

The company’s move into China follows expansion into Japan earlier this year.

Profitero has appointed Angela Lui as director of strategy and insight for China. She brings nearly 20 years of research experience from previous positions at Nielsen, WPP, NPD Group and Huawei.
