Irish software firm Britebill is set to double its workforce to 60 by the end of the year

in the wake of a number of major contract wins.

The company provides software that enhances the existing billing systems of service providers and improves online interactivity.

Chief executive Alan Coleman said the majority of the jobs would be located in Ireland, with a small number in its US and Shanghai offices.

Britebill was recently named in Gartner’s list of “Cool Vendors” for 2014, an award that Mr Coleman said was a “major accolade”.

"Our competitors are Nasdaq listed, extremely large software companies, so it's a big statement to say that Gartner see we're making a big difference in the way that operators work," he said.

Britebill allows providers to build relationships with customers through their bills, by providing a clearer channel of communication that eliminates unnecessary calls to customer care, which can be costly for the firm.

Personalised "What we're trying to do is prevent the calls that the customer doesn't want to make to the call centre driven by confusion around the bill they've just received, and that the operator doesn't want to receive, because customers are frustrated," he explained.

“It’s about creating a billing document that’s clear and transparent, that’s personalised to the customer and shows that the provider knows who they are, and to develop the relationship.”

With telecoms firms increasingly competing with over-the-top service providers such as WhatsApp, the one strategic advantage they still retain is the communication with the customer through billing.

“They’re having to sell more services to the existing customer base. They need to cherish the customer relationships that they have, and as ironic as it sounds, the bill is the perfect place to do this,” Mr Coleman said.

Founded in 2010, Britebill's customers include Vodafone and UPC, and the firm says it's in talks with potential clients in the US.
