Fujitsu World Tour comes to Dublin

Event to showcase next-generation consumer products including liquid-proof tablets

Data analytics, big data and the “internet of things” have become hot topics over the last year.

The Fujitsu World Tour, which comes to Dublin this week, will serve as platform to outline how these relatively new phenomena that will change our everyday lives and the way we do business.

The event, which is taking place in the Convention Centre on Thursday, will showcase next generation consumer products including holograms, underwater hardware and liquid-proof tablet devices.

Fujitsu Ireland chief executive Regina Moran said 2014 marks the tour's first visit to Ireland. "The event will serve as a soundboard for all things technology - from cutting edge new technology hardware to cloud computing, the future of innovation and changing role of IT."

Matt Watts, director of technology and strategy at NetApp, who will lead a breakout session on the changing role of IT, said change and innovation are among the key elements of the tour.

“The event will look at the changing role of IT and specifically how businesses are moving away from being builders of apps and operators of data centres to becoming brokers of information services to business.”

Among the international speakers will be James Woudhuysen, professor of forecasting and innovation at De Montfort University. With a renowned track record for predicting major trends, he warned of the Dotcom bust in 1999 and supported 3G mobile technology when it faced broad scepticism in 2002.

Fujitsu global chief medical officer Lester Russell, Intel Labs Europe director of strategic programs Brian Quinn and Prof Barry Smyth, CEO of Insight are also among the speakers.

They will examine the future of IT healthcare, the commercialisation of research and data driven business.
