Dublin is to host an international tech conference after its bid was chosen ahead of a number of European cities.

Up to 1,500 delegates will attend the 37th International Conference on Information Systems (ICIS) at the Convention Centre in the city in December 2016, bringing a multimillion-euro boost to the economy with them.

"Bidding to host the ICIS conference is very competitive and Dublin won out against Munich, Vienna and Istanbul," said Prof Brian Fitzgerald of Lero, the Irish Software Research Centre. "This is a significant coup for Dublin and reflects Ireland's growing reputation as a global technology centre."

The bids were presented at a recent meeting in Florida. The 2016 conference theme will be “digital innovation at the crossroads”.
