Kenny Neison, the chief financial officer of Bulmers/Magners cidermaker C&C, has resigned from the company in a surprise move.

The company informed the stock market late on Thursday afternoon that Mr Neison has resigned “for personal reasons”. It is understood he has departed with immediate effect.

Mr Neison was absent when C&C announced its annual results last month. At the time, Stephen Glancey, the chief executive, told analysts that his chief financial officer was "out sick today".

The company declined to make any further comment when asked to elaborate on the reasons for Mr Neison’s departure on Thursday.

He has worked closely with Mr Glancey for many years, first at brewers Scottish & Newcastle, before they moved together as part of a new management team at C&C.
