Primark, which trades as Penneys in Ireland, has opened its eighth store in the US. This latest addition marks the company's third store in Massachusetts following the opening of its first US store in Boston in 2015.

The Dublin-headquartered company operates over 335 stores across 11 countries and employs over 70,000 people.

Its newest store, at the South Shore Plaza in Braintree, Massachusetts, encompasses 41,000sq ft of retail space and is expected to create almost 200 jobs in the local community. The new location will sell Primark’s latest womenswear, menswear and childrenswear ranges, as well as homeware, accessories and beauty products.

Presence

In addition to its Massachusetts stores, the company has a presence in Pennsylvania, Connecticut, New Jersey and New York.

The fashion retailer has plans to open two new US stores in the future – one in New Jersey and the other in New York.

The value driven retailer is owned by UK listed Associated British Foods (ABF) Group, in which an investment vehicle owned by the Weston Family is a majority shareholder. The Weston's also own the Brown Thomas chain.

In its interim results to the beginning of March this year, ABF chief executive, George Weston praised the company, saying it contributed to an increase in ABF's share of the total clothing market.
