Parking Tag, which allows motorists to pay for parking by phone, has extended its service to Arklow, Co Wicklow, Dún Laoghaire Harbour in south Dublin and Wicklow town.
The Parking Tag service, which has more than 47,000 motorists registered, already allows motorists to instantly park and pay by phone in Dublin city, Dún Laoghaire-Rathdown, Fingal and South Dublin County Council areas, without the need to use change at parking meters.
Operated by Payzone, the service lets motorists pay for their parking by phone, using a registered debit or credit card.
Mobile app
Account holders pay for parking by sending a text message or through the Parking Tag mobile app. Motorists can also extend their parking time remotely, Parking Tag reminds users by text 10 minutes before their parking time expires.
Payzone Ireland managing director Jim Deignan said the service was proving extremely popular for motorists, reflected in the growing numbers of registered accounts and transactions per week.
“This is a service that we see extending into many other towns throughout Ireland and we are very encouraged by the discussions and feedback we are getting from other local authorities around the country.”
Welcome development
Acting town clerk at Arklow Town Council Michael McNamara said the new service would be a welcome development for both residents and visiting motorists to Arklow town and “provides the council with a modern and effective payments system to manage parking in the town.”
The Parking Tag system has been operating in Ireland since 2009.
About 20 per cent of Dublin City Council’s on-street parking revenue comes from the service.
