BoI assures customers double-charging problem now rectified

Error caused Visa debit card holders to be debited twice for transactions

Bank of Ireland has assured customers that the error which caused some debit transactions to be duplicated earlier in the week has now been corrected.

The problem caused an undisclosed number of customers to be debited twice for single transactions made last Friday, January 17th.

The transactions, which involved mainly Visa debit cards - the bank’s main debit card product - were duplicated during Monday’s processing pf payments.

A spokeswoman said the issue was rectified within 24 hours and that “all accounts were fully updated”.

“No customers -who were overdrawn as a result of the error - will incur any fees, charges or interest payments,” she added.

The problem arose from the duplication of a file, she said, and not from a technical glitch in the bank’s processing system.
