A group has been formed to manage the €170 million development of the Boland's Quay project in Dublin's south docklands on behalf of the National Asset Management Agency.

The "Boland's Quay Development Group" is a collaboration between Savills, who are receivers to the project on behalf of Nama, and property development consultancy Cleary McCabe & Associates, with co-founder Michael Cleary appointed as development director.

Mr Cleary said his role would be to “direct, support and promote the successful delivery of this major scheme”, which he believes will become a “landmark development in the resurgent Dublin Docklands area”.

He will report to the Nama-appointed receivers, Mark Reynolds and Glenn Cran of Savills.

Funded by Nama, Boland’s Quay – designed by Dublin-based BKD Architects – will provide three large buildings, two of offices and one residential, comprising about 36,850sq m of space.

It will also involve the restoration of a number of protected mill buildings – including the landmark Boland’s Mills – and a new civic plaza looking on to the waterfront at Grand Canal Dock.

Demolition work is currently under way at the site with construction work due to begin in September for completion in 2018. A tender process for a contractor, which is expected to take five months, is currently under way.

Conservation works on the existing protected structures, which will be converted to commercial use, will take place in advance of this. The first stage of this process will be the drying out of buildings.

Boland's Mills is located at the heart of the so-called Silicon Docks area on Barrow Street, which is home to the European headquarters of global internet search company Google.
