O'Callaghan Properties has applied for planning permission for a €90 million office complex at Cork's Albert Quay in the heart of the city's docklands.
In what would be a major boost to the city, the planned development involves the construction of 360,000 sq feet of office space in four separate buildings of five and six storeys on a 2.25 acre site.
The development would be bounded by Albert Quay, Victoria Road, Albert Road and Albert Street.
The development of the project, on a site previously earmarked by O’Callaghan Properties for an event centre, will create 350 construction jobs. When finished it will accommodate some 3,000 employees, depending on use.
The development will also have basement parking accommodation over two levels for 300 cars and 200 bicycles, bringing the total area under construction to 500,000 sq ft.
"If planning permission is granted, construction of the project will commence in late 2016 and will be complete in May 2018," said O'Callaghan Properties, who described the project as "transformational" for Cork city.
“The site in Albert Quay is the premium location for such an ambitious project, being located within a few minutes’ walk of the city centre, with nearby bus and train stations and adjacent to the South Link Road making it easily accessible from east and west.”
According to O'Callaghan Properties, the project, which is near the recently opened €45 million One Albert Quay by John Cleary Developments, will be a catalyst for further office, commercial and residential projects in the city's docklands.
