€250,000 sought for sawmills

Harrington Auctioneers is currently marketing what it describes as a "most unique property"– the old sawmills in Glendalough, Co
Wicklow, an area that attracts more than a million visitors a year. It is located close to the famous
Monastic City and the Round Tower.

The roughly triangular property extending to two acres is bounded by the Glendasan river on one side, the main road to
Glendalough lakes on the other and what is now known as St Kevin's Way or the Mines Road.

The old sawmills has a long history of use as a family business where locally grown timber was sawn for use in the old lead mines and more recently for local construction.

Harrington Auctioneers said that under planning permission granted, the existing buildings could be renovated to provide a number of facilities for tourists such as craft boutiques, artist studios and perhaps an antiquarian book shop.
