WATERFORD OFFICIALS will be working over the weekend to come up with a successor to Justin McCarthy as senior hurling manager.

There is a county board meeting on Monday night and although there are hopes that a name can be put before the meeting, the process won't be rushed.

County secretary John O'Leary said: "It's important to come to a decision quickly but we don't want to rush it either. We have four weeks and it's important to get the right man."

O'Leary said he was unaware of whether physical trainer Gerry Fitzpatrick was available to remain in his post, as he hadn't been one of the selectors, all of whom stepped down on Thursday night.
