Outstanding displays from the men and women of University College Cork in their final pool games at the intervarsity tournament in Limerick yesterday ended Trinity's hopes of successfully defending the Mauritius and Chilean Cups they won in Jordanstown last year. A 1-0 win for UCC in the women's game and a scoreless draw in the men's resulted in the accomplished Trinity sides failing to reach the semi-finals of either competition with UCC advancing to the last four. The women now meet UCD who were beaten to first place in pool B by the hosts, the University of Limerick, for whom Sally Ann McAuliffe scored the only goal of their win over the Dublin students.

Limerick now play the University of Ulster, Jordanstown, in today's second Chilean Cup semi-final.

The men of Dublin City University are the only team in the entire competition to go in to semi-finals with a 100 per cent winning record after they followed up Tuesday's win over UCC with two more victories - a shock 3-1 defeat of Trinity and a 4-0 passage against Royal College of Surgeons.

Fortified DCU play UUJ for the a place in the final today while UCC meet Queen's who topped pool A after beating UUJ 1-0.
