Stephanie Roche is in talks with two English clubs ahead of a possible move, after she was released by Houston Dash last month.

“I’ll be speaking to two teams in England over the next few days and then I’ll figure out what I’m doing,” Roche said.

“I’m lucky that there’s a break at the moment for the world cup in most leagues so it gives me time to think.”

The former Peamount United striker admits that it wasn’t easy in the US as the football culture focuses more on the team than certain individuals.

“It’s [England] closer to home obviously and I learned the hard way over in the US that it’s easy to be cut. It’s not very good for the player over there, it’s more so in favour of the team whereas I think England would be different to that.

“It’s a different level of football so I think I’d want the time to be able to settle.”

The football environment in America is a harsh one and players are let go very frequently.

Rules state that each team is only allowed three international players within their squad.

The signings of Australian defender Ellie Brush, and Brazilian defender Camila meant that Roche was the one to be axed from the roster.

The 25-year-old admits that it was tough to take and that she was afforded more attention than most.

“It’s obviously not a nice thing to happen to any footballer but it happens all the time. I was unlucky that it was public and everybody knew about it.”

Roche was speaking in Dublin today as she was unveiled as a health and wellbeing ambassador for Sodexo Ireland.
