Flying with children

Sir, – Dr Muiris Houston (June 12th) writes how unpleasant it must be for a small child confined in an aircraft in air pressure similar to a high-altitude camp in the Andes, not to mention the confusion, noise and cramped conditions ("Are we there yet? Flying with children this summer", Health + Family, Janaury 12th).

Since one guilt-ridden traumatic air trip to and from Spain marked by earaches, vomiting and abdominal pain, our growing family has enjoyed several stress-free holidays in France and the UK travelling by ferry.

If you must holiday abroad with small children, go by boat. It’s much slower but much more relaxing. – Yours, etc,

Dr MARINA COYLE,
