Sir, – I welcome Sheila Nunan’s letter (“Early Years staff deserve pay parity,” Letters, September 22nd). Her call for high-quality care and education for every child deserves wholehearted support, backed by the investment needed to make it a reality.
Ireland can be proud of its schools. That pride should extend to the qualified graduates who educate children before they reach the school gate. Yet praise is easier to come by than fair pay and professional recognition.
To borrow from George Orwell, all educators are valued, but some, it seems, are valued more than others. – Yours, etc.
