Sir, – Frank McNally’s lament that typing and keyboard use have ruined his handwriting (An Irish Diary, June 23rd) is all too familiar. He is appalled, he says, by “the hieroglyphics emanating from the end of my biro”.

That’s the problem right there, Frank. The two-word solution? Fountain pen. – Yours, etc,
