Mayo beaches given all clear after E.coli scare

Beaches affected by e-coli scare included Keel and Dugort on Achill Island

Mayo County Council gave the all-clear at the weekend for bathers to resume swimming in waters which were found earlier to contain abnormal levels of E.coli.

The bathing ban was imposed by the county council, after consultation with the HSE, on a number of public beaches.

Four of the beaches have Blue Flag status.

The elevated levels of bacteria were blamed on “recent abnormal weather conditions”.
