Dubliners face disruption to water supplies in some areas of the city this weekend following the breakage of a distribution main near James Street.

The disruption will last from today until Sunday, Dublin City Council has said.

“Due a break on a large water distribution main (1000mm) off James Street, customers in areas of the city will experience disruption to water supply from today until Sunday 2nd March,” the council said in a statement.

“This will result in reduced pressures and the possibility of temporary water loss due to necessary water shutdowns, which will facilitate repair of the main.”

The areas most likely to be worst affected include:

North of the Liffey: Cabra; Glasnevin; Phibsboro; Drumcondra; parts of Doneycarney; Santry and parts of Beaumont;

South of the Liffey: Heuston area south to Thomas St and east to Bridgefoot St.

Work began on the repairs at 6.30am this morning and is likely to continue well into Sunday. The council said tankers will be made available for customers if necessary.

Meanwhile, Clare County Council says it is monitoring the potential risk of coastal flooding later this weekend and on Monday.

The Council says that a tidal surge and accompanying south west to west winds will coincide with high spring tidal conditions during the 36 hour period from Sunday morning to Monday evening.

“While conditions are not expected to deteriorate to the extent experienced in early January and early February, there is a potential for coastal flooding,” the council said.
