A programme of events to mark the 400th anniversary of the Co Leitrim town of Carrick-on-Shannon was launched by Minister for Tourism Leo Varadkar yesterday.
Carrick-on-Shannon was granted a charter as a town by King James I in 1613. The anniversary will be marked next year with a 10-month programme of events.
It will be part of the Gathering and will be encouraging thousands of people who left the town and who live at home and abroad to come back.
The celebrations begin in February next year when Carrick Rowing Club hosts the Head of the Shannon event on February 23rd.
