Madrid hotel is just rubbish

A HOTEL made entirely of rubbish opened in the centre of Madrid to coincide with a major tourism fair this week.

The five-room Beach Garbage Hotel in Plaza de Callao is made of materials found in landfills, flea markets but mostly from beaches – in Britain, France, Germany, Italy and Spain. The dirtiest beaches were apparently in southern Italy.

“I created the Beach Garbage Hotel because the oceans of our planet are the biggest garbage dump,” German artist Ha Schult said.

He opened a similar hotel in Rome last summer – and model Helena Christensen spent a night in it. Madrid’s rubbish hotel is short-stay only – it closes tomorrow.
