DINGLE DELIGHT:THE DINGLE peninsula was highlighted this week by CNN as "the most beautiful place on Earth" and an ideal winter-travel destination. While those of us who live in Ireland might dream of warmer climes, for US travellers Dingle has "relatively warm temperatures", making it reason enough as the ideal place for a winter break.

The average temperature of 46 degrees Fahrenheit (almost eight degrees Celsius) during December, January and February are a major draw, as are the cheaper prices for accommodation during January and February, CNN stated.

CNN advised travellers that winter visitors would avoid “the area’s hundreds of thousands of summertime tourists” and it promised great food, pointing out that Dingle’s “popular marina” brings in fresh seafood daily.

Fungie – who celebrates 25 years as a tourist attraction in 2009 – also got a mention, as did the “drastically cut” winter rates for “vacation cottages”, which were also offering more flexible dates. Traditional music, “hearty pub grub” and Guinness were “the perfect way to cap a day exploring the wintry sights of the peninsula”, CNN declared.
