Sir, – A reference to Valentine’s Day put me in mind of two late members of my family in the distant past.
For five years, my sister, in collusion with a friend, sent a Valentine card to my brother. It purported to come from someone who attended the weekly rugby matches in which he played and her admiration of him. The other siblings in the family got great amusement from watching him looking covertly at the card while he refused to show it to anyone. I wonder did he scan the stand at the game in the hope of recognising his admirer!
Eventually he moved out of home but he never discovered who sent the card so faithfully each year.
Perhaps we were easily amused but I still smile when I think of the annual event. – Yours, etc,
