Almost nine out of 10 drivers were back on the road last month, official figures show.

The Central Statistics Office said on Wednesday that the latest data shows that car journeys in November reached 90 per cent of 2019 levels in Dublin and 86 per cent outside the capital.

The office calculated that there were 30 per cent fewer bike journeys last month than in November 2019.

However, the November 2021 total was 48 per cent higher than during the same month last year.

Nele van der Wielen, statistician, said the figures showed that the number of new cars licensed last month rose by 699 compared with November 2020 by 491 on November 2019.

“Latest available data for the week beginning 29 November (week 48) show that the volumes of private cars in regional locations are still 14 per cent lower than the same week in 2019,” she added.
