Talk to Joe

Sir, – Further to "Accumulated profits at Joe Duffy's company top ¤505,000" (Business, February 25th), is it relevant to tell readers that Joe Duffy is a "Ballyfermot man"?

It is as if for some reason he deserves acclaim for succeeding in life just because he grew up in an area of Dublin seen by many as “deprived” or “marginalised”. After all you mention Ryan Tubridy and Ray D’Arcy in the same piece and there is no mention of where they came from.

It always strikes me that attitudes to where people grew up or what school you went to are of too much importance particularly in Irish society today.

Let’s strike a better balance and acknowledge that it’s not about your address or school you came from that dictates how successful you’ll be in life. – Yours, etc,
